RDA has launched a new product: the Smoke Ventilation Control (SVC). This advanced system is designed to meet the strictest European standards for smoke ventilation and offers a reliable solution for industrial drives. We spoke with Christian Sørensen, salesman at RDA in Hobro, Denmark, to learn more about this innovation.
What makes the SVC special?
“The SVC is specially designed for industrial doors (230V) with or without integrated frequency converter and digital limit switches. In case of fire, the SVC controls the door to a preset height, which in combination with a roof hatch control creates a smoke extraction system. This allows smoke to exit the building in a controlled manner for optimal smoke heat evacuation, increasing the chances of survival for occupants.”
“The SVC is equipped with an emergency power supply that operates for up to 72 hours after power failure. This ensures that the door can still move to the correct position, even in the event of a power failure. Thanks to a simple menu and an intuitive rotary/push button on the display, operation and programming of the system is user-friendly and efficient.”
Why was the SVC developed?
“Since 2013, European regulations on smoke ventilation have changed. Whereas previously buildings were sealed to smother fire, research has shown that most fire victims die from smoke inhalation. The new regulations (EN12101-10) require smoke to be removed from buildings in a controlled manner. This necessitated the development of an innovative solution, such as the SVC.”
“In Denmark, these regulations are now fully integrated into the building sector. No new building can be constructed without a certified smoke ventilation system. RDA developed the SVC in response to this need and now offers an efficient and certified solution for smoke extraction through industrial doors.”
What are the benefits of the SVC?
According to Christian, the SVC offers important advantages for installers and end users:
- Easy installation: the assembled cable with plugs makes it easy to connect the SVC to a frequency-controlled drive.
- User-friendly operation: the intuitive menu makes setup and programming easy.
- Reliable emergency power: four batteries provide more stable operation and longer life than competing systems.
- Less wiring required: the system is more efficiently designed, making installation less complex.
- Certified and tested: the SVC complies with the EN12101-10 standard and has been extensively tested and approved.
Who is the SVC intended for?
“The SVC is designed for door vendors, door installers and door manufacturers. The product is suitable for commercial and industrial buildings, particularly in Northern Europe, where smoke ventilation regulations are strictly enforced.”
With the SVC, RDA adds an innovative, reliable and certified solution to its product range. The system offers an important contribution to building safety and helps companies comply with the strictest European standards. A valuable addition for the future of smoke ventilation and industrial automation!
